Timothy Tait is a Professor of Physics & Astronomy at UC Irvine. His research interests include theoretical physics beyond the Standard Model, particle phenomenology, high-energy collider physics, and cosmology.
Description
Professor Tate will discuss the need to extend the Standard Model of particle physics to describe dark matter, the mysterious substance whose existence is inferred from cosmological measurements but whose fundamental nature remains unknown. He will examine how a broad strategy that combines dark matter search techniques from both particle physics and astronomy maximizes the chances of successfully uncovering its identity, as well as the implications such a discovery could have for future research in particle physics.
Location
Physics Colloquia are held each Wednesday beginning at 3:00pm in the John A. Wheeler Lecture Hall (PMA 4.102) unless otherwise noted.
