Description
Abstract: I will discuss a program of research addressing ongoing challenges in modelling the Universe's large-scale structure (LSS), in order to perform the most stringent and unbiased tests of our standard cosmological model. This program is underpinned by recent developments in "effective field theory" methods combined with N-body simulations. Specifically, I will highlight challenges encountered in deploying these models against current datasets, solutions devised, and new opportunities to enhance LSS science presented by these solutions. I will additionally discuss how, on a longer-term timescale, the powerful datasets being collected by present and near-future cosmic surveys will enable new forms of studying the Universe which go beyond conventional paradigms.
