Title: Some reflections on using AI to do science and enable new kinds of research
Description
Abstract: AI capabilities are advancing faster than scientific institutions can adapt, and beginning to commoditize the artifacts and processes those institutions are organized around. This has implications for how science is done and who does it. In this talk, I will share experiences from across industry and academia: attempts at AI-driven research, lessons from working with researchers as they integrate AI into their workflows, and reflections on what works, what breaks, and what may be routine in months.
Bio: Siddharth Mishra-Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Computing & Data Sciences at BU as well as a Researcher on the Discovery Team at Anthropic. He obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Princeton University. Previously, he was an IAIFI Fellow at the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI), affiliated with MIT and Harvard. Prior to that, he was a postdoc at NYU's Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics.
